Stem Cell Treatment

Coronaviruses are a family of viruses that can cause illnesses such as the common cold, severe acute respiratory syndrome, and Middle East respiratory syndrome. In 2019, a new coronavirus was identified as the cause of a disease outbreak that originated in China.

This virus is now known as severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus type 2 (SARS-CoV-2). The disease it causes is called coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). In March 2020, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the outbreak of COVID-19 a pandemic.

Novastem has treatments to counteract sequelae in patients who have been affected with COVID.

What is COVID-19?

COVID-19 is the most recently discovered infectious disease caused by the coronavirus. Both were unknown before the outbreak broke out in Wuhan, China in December 2019.

What are the symptoms of coronavirus?

The main symptoms of coronavirus include:

In more severe cases, the virus can cause pneumonia or severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS), which is a severe form of pneumonia, kidney failure, and even death. In other cases, some infected persons do not develop any symptoms, but can still infect the rest of the population.

Complications that can occur

Although most people with COVID-19 have mild to moderate symptoms, the disease can cause serious medical complications and death in some people. Older adults or people with existing medical conditions are at increased risk of becoming seriously ill with COVID-19.

Complications may include the following:

The severity of COVID-19 symptoms can range from very mild to severe. Some people may have only a few symptoms and others may have none, which is called asymptomatic transmission. In some people, symptoms may worsen, such as increased shortness of breath and pneumonia, about a week after onset.

Conventional treatments for COVID-19.

Currently, there is only one drug approved to treat COVID-19. There is no cure for COVID-19. Antibiotics are not effective against viral infections such as COVID-19. Researchers are testing a variety of possible treatments.

The FDA has approved the antiviral drug remdesivir (Veklury) to treat COVID-19 in adults and children 12 years and older who are hospitalized.

The FDA has authorized emergency use of the rheumatoid arthritis drug baricitinib (Olumiant) to treat COVID-19 in some cases. Baricitinib is a pill that appears to work against COVID-19 because it reduces inflammation and has antiviral activity. The FDA states that baricitinib can be used in people hospitalized for COVID-19 who are on mechanical ventilators or who need supplemental oxygen.

There are several monoclonal antibody drugs. These include sotrovimab and a combination of two antibodies called casirivimab and imdevimab. These drugs are used to treat mild to moderate COVID-19 in people who are at increased risk for severe disease due to COVID-19. The treatment is given as a single intravenous infusion given on an outpatient basis. To be most effective, these drugs should be given soon after the onset of COVID-19 symptoms and before hospitalization. The FDA has also cleared casirivimab and imdevimab for use as a treatment for people who are at increased risk of serious illness and who have recently been exposed to COVID-19 virus, or those who are at increased risk of exposure. For example, these people may include those living in nursing and convalescent homes or in prisons where others have recently been infected with COVID-19 virus. This treatment is for people who are not fully vaccinated, or those who are fully vaccinated but have weakened immune systems.

The U.S. National Institutes of Health recently recommended dexamethasone, a corticosteroid, for people hospitalized with severe COVID-19 who require supplemental oxygen or mechanical ventilation. If dexamethasone is not available, other corticosteroids, such as prednisone, methylprednisolone or hydrocortisone, may be used.

The FDA also granted emergency use authorization for therapy with plasma from convalescent individuals with high antibody levels to treat COVID-19. Plasma from convalescent individuals is blood donated by individuals who have recovered from COVID-19. Plasma from convalescent persons with high levels of antibodies may be used to treat some hospitalized people who have COVID-19 and are in the early stage of the disease or who have a weakened immune system.

Many people with COVID-19 may have mild disease and may receive symptom control treatment that is aimed at relieving symptoms and may include:

There is no evidence that ibuprofen or other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) should be avoided.

Benefits of using stem cells for post covid symptoms.

When the natural immune response fails to control SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus replication, it induces the production of macrophages and granulocytes with the consequent massive release of CD4+ T cells producing IL-6 and other proinflammatory cytokines leading to lung tissue damage1, 2. Among other systemic conditions this “cytokine storm” can cause severe pulmonary and vascular endothelial tissue damage, leading to acute respiratory failure syndromes and thrombotic conditions that are major causes of mortality.

Currently, several clinical trials related to COVID-19 mesenchymal stem cell therapy have been conducted and have confirmed safety and efficacy, suggesting a good prospect for clinical application.

Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) have many biological functions of powerful immunomodulation and tissue repair and regeneration. As a stem cell therapy, it has the potential to reduce tissue injury and mortality in critically ill patients infected with the new coronavirus.

How do we do it at Novastem?

Over the years, numerous attempts have been made to discover medical and non-medical treatment options for this condition. In some cases, medical treatments have led to increased survival and improved quality of life, and options for non-medical therapeutics have emerged.

Novastem’s goal with our treatments is to reverse the lack of functionality, eliminating pain and allowing you to enjoy 100% of daily activities and life again.

At Novastem we use mesenchymal stem cells derived from bone marrow, mesenchymal stem cells derived from Wharton’s jelly, the application of the treatment is intravenous and inhalation of the cell concentrate is also possible.

Novastem has the strictest acceptance protocols to treat a patient, we perform laboratory studies before each therapy.

Novastem has treatments to counteract sequelae in patients who have been affected with COVID.
